America is a Republic, not a pure Democracy. Our Republic form of government functions through representatives under the rule of law based in our Constitution and state constitutions. Democracies exercise government by the vote of the people where the law can be changed by simple majority vote which does not always respect the rule of law, and is subject to the whims of political correctness.

Madison said, “Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property, and have in general been as short in their lives, as they been violent in their deaths.”
